How to maintain the RV air conditioner

Typically, before starting RV camping, there is a routine inspection of the RV air conditioner, including filters, air conditioner enclosures, and more.

Clean air conditioner filters regularly

In order to ensure the normal and effective operation of the air conditioner in the RV, it is necessary to clean the air conditioner filter frequently. An air conditioner filter that is too dusty or soiled can reduce the cooling capacity and efficiency of the air conditioner. The filter is located in the motorhome, under the air panel on the air conditioner unit. Most RV air conditioner filters must be rinsed carefully and thoroughly in warm water.

Check the casing and condenser blades

Carefully check the various parts and casings of the air conditioner. Once the casing of the air conditioner is found to be loose or cracked, the functions of the air conditioner such as keeping warm and drying will be abnormal. Next, look at the condenser blades of the air conditioner to make sure the blades are not bent.

Remove dirt from components

Remove the sheet metal to protect the metal cooling fins, and use a water hose and sprayer to remove accumulated dirt and leaves. When cleaning these parts, make sure that the part is not powered on to avoid accidents. You can also choose to use an air pump, and use the pressure in the air pump to clear the dirt. The advantage is that there will be no danger. The disadvantage is that it may take longer, and the effect is not as good as cleaning with water.

Disassembly and assembly of air conditioner filter

The cleaned filter needs to be air-dried before putting it back. Most RV air conditioner units have filters removed and the evaporator coils inside can be seen, shine a flashlight, check these coils for any dirt or debris, and if so, use a very flexible vacuum cleaner attachment with care to remove dust and dirt.

Tips:

If you're willing to climb on the roof, it's a good idea to clean the air conditioner's external condenser coil as well. The protective cover on the air conditioner needs to be removed, which is usually fixed with a few screws and can be cleaned with an air pump.

In addition, experts recommend that the air conditioner should be turned on and debugged before traveling in the RV to ensure that the RV air conditioner can be used normally.
